I have received a letter from Intrum Justitia

  • Who is Intrum Justitia?

Intrum Justitia is a Credit Management Services firm providing a range of services for a wide variety of clients.  One of the services we provide is that of debt collection.

We work for many clients who are household names in Utilities, Finance, Telecommunications and other sectors.  Those clients engage Intrum Justitia to collect revenue from their customers who, for whatever reason, have been unable to pay the money they owe.  The decision to outsource the collection of money from these customers to Intrum Justitia is a natural one and we operate as an extension of those clients internal credit management functions.  We aim to do this as amicably as possible.

  • Why have I received a letter from Intrum Justitia?

This is because you have not paid a creditor or logged a complaint with them (if for instance there is a dispute) and they have asked Intrum Justitia to collect the debt owed.

The first thing to remember is not to panic!  It is a logical step for a creditor to use a firm such as Intrum Justitia to collect overdue accounts – they will want to solve the payment problem in an amicable way without the need for legal proceedings.

  • From where does Intrum Justitia obtain my details?

Your details are sent to us from your creditor in respect of your account.  They send contact details and further information concerning the payment of any debts owed.  This information is kept in the strictest confidence.

  • What is stated on our letter?

On the letter you will find details of our company name, address and telephone number.  You will also find details of your creditor, a reference number, a date when any possible reminders may have been sent (if applicable), and the amount which is due.

You will need the reference number when contacting Intrum Justitia.  Further details on the amount owed can be given over the phone by Intrum Justitia once we have established your identity.  The telephone number for you to ring is clearly stated on the letter and is charged at national call rates (unless using a mobile). We would encourage you to call to discuss your circumstances with one of our operatives.
  • How to pay the reminder letter

Normally we will issue you with a pre-printed giro slip as part of the reminder letter, however, there are a number of options open to you in terms of payment methods. More details are contained on the back of the letter. One of our customer advisers will also be able to advise you further.

  • What happens if I pay Intrum Justitia the amount requested?

Once we have processed your payment we will inform your creditor that you have paid.  We will then transfer the money to your creditor and your file will be closed.

  • What happens if I pay only part of the amount owed?

It’s a start!  But you are still liable for the remaining amount and you will be sent reminders for this.

  • Can I arrange a payment plan with Intrum Justitia?

If you received a reminder but cannot pay the full amount, then please contact us to discuss your options.    The possibility of arranging a suitable payment plan will depend upon your creditor and we are bound by their guidelines, but provided your offer is fair and well documented (as outlined in this website) then your creditor will consider it.

Please contact us to discuss what can be arranged.  Often an offer of payment demonstrates that you are serious about clearing your debts.

  • What happens if I ignore the reminder letters?

Your creditor will be within their rights to take further action including possible legal action if you decide to ignore the reminder letters.  This may result in additional costs being added to the amount you owe.

Never ignore a reminder.  There are always solutions available such as paying by instalments.  If you keep in contact with us throughout the process and keep to an agreed payment plan you can avoid possible extra costs.   If you do not pay the amount owed, this may affect your ability to obtain credit and in certain circumstances it may also affect whether you are able to obtain certain types of employment.

  • I have already paid this debt.  Can you check my account?

If you have already paid the debt then please contact us on the number stated on the letter.  We will liaise with your creditor and arrange to have your file closed.
